Ninety-six Ansar members stationed in Cumilla have been dismissed from their jobs for participating in an unauthorised rally in front of the Secretariat in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
Among them, 22 were deployed at Cumilla University. They were accused of attending the rally illegally and attempting to lay siege to the Secretariat, according to Cumilla Ansar-VDP Circle Adjutant Md Monirul Islam.
“There are around 1,100 Ansar members working in Cumilla district. We have received specific complaints against 96 of them for engaging in unauthorised activities. They have been dismissed,” he stated.
On 25 August, several Ansar members held a rally in Dhaka putting forward their demand of job nationalisation. Despite being assured their demands would be address they later laid siege to the Secretariat keeping a few advisers confined in the premises. During that time, some Ansar members also attacked students and allegedly fired shots.
