The Cumilla Export Processing Zone (EPZ) authority has announced extending its general holiday for one more day due to ongoing flooding in the area.
Earlier, the Cumilla EPZ announced a three-day closure starting Saturday (24 August).
Executive Director of Cumilla EPZ Abdullah Al Mahbub said, “Workers started to arrive this morning, but 20% of them refused to work as some factories were still under water. That is why we extended the closure. Once water recedes, we hope to strengthen security and resume our operations from tomorrow.”
According to sources, flood water entered the EPZ from the South Chartha area of the district, which flowed to the Dakatia River through Bijoypur canal in the airport area.
As water level in Dakatia River increased, water from EPZ could not be drained.
As a result, water accumulated inside the EPZ area, forcing the authority to suspend work for another day.
