Hasina, Quader, 155 others sued over killing of man in Gazipur

A murder case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former road, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, and 155 others over the killing of a man during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 20 July in Gazipur.
Purnima Begum, wife of the deceased Nazrul Islam, 32, filed the case with the Basan Police Station in the early hours of Wednesday (28 August), the station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahangir Alam told The Business Standard.
Other accused in the case include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, president of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League Azmat Ullah Khan and several councillors of Gazipur City Corporation.
Additionally, 150-200 unidentified persons have also been accused.
According to the case statement, Nazrul Islam went to join the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement rally on 20 July at noon. During the peaceful gathering, on the instructions of the first 16 accused, the other accused in the case attacked the protesters with guns, pistols, sticks, iron rods, knives, and other weapons.
At one point, Nazrul Islam was shot in his back and died on the spot.
Nazrul Islam was the son of Md Jamal Sheikh from Baraibhag area in Sirajganj district. He lived with his wife in a rented house in Chandana Chowrasta area in Gazipur.
