Hasina, three ex-ministers among 54 sued in fresh murder case in Brahmanbaria

A murder case has been filed against 54 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and three former ministers of her government, in Brahmanbaria.

The accused include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former law minister Anisul Huq and former housing and public works minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury.

The case was filed early today (29 August) with Brahmanbaria Sadar police station. The victim is Jahirul Islam, and the case was filed by his brother Babul Mia, who is a resident of Suhilpur village in Sadar upazila of the district.

A total of 54 people have been named and 200 others have been kept unnamed in the case, said police.

According to the charge sheet, Awami League men had launched attacks on the activists of Hefazat-e-Islam during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bangladesh visit on 26 March, 2021. On that afternoon, Jahirul died in severely injured condition when AL men and law enforcers shot at the protesters in front of Bisic Industrial Zone at Nandanpur area in the Sadar upazila.

“The case has been documented. Proper actions will be taken depending on the investigation,” said Officer In-Charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar police station Mozaffar Hossain.
