Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e Azam has said that they are working towards rehabilitating flood victims.
“The government’s first priority for flood victims will be rehabilitation. We are working towards that goal,” he told journalists after a meeting to discuss the recent flood situation in the district, held at the Chattogram Circuit House conference room today (31 August).
Regarding the rehabilitation of flood victims, the adviser said, “I called this meeting with field-level officers to know the flood and post-flood situation. We got a realistic picture from them. They shared their experiences with us in this meeting.
“Based on this, we got an idea of the rehabilitation programme. Flood victims will be rehabilitated through the proper process. Relief activities are still ongoing. We will start the rehabilitation process after the floodwaters recede completely.”
He added, “Another important task is to ensure public health for the flood victims. Many people are suffering from health problems in the post-flood period. We are giving top priority to ensure that they get necessary medical treatment.”
The Chattogram divisional commissioner, civil surgeon, local coordinators, students of the anti-discrimination student movement, and various other field-level officers were present at the event.
