All just demands of workers will be fulfilled as per labour law after discussion: Adviser

The government will fulfil all just demands of workers in accordance with the labour law after discussions with stakeholders, Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmum Shojib Bhuyain said today (2 September).

“The new government is working to meet the just demands of the workers. We have to follow labour laws properly,” Asif said at a meeting with other advisers, representatives of workers and factory owners at the ministry today (2 September) in the wake of recent protests by workers of various sectors, including the readymade garments and pharmaceuticals, demanding fair wage, job permanency and other reforms.

“All companies that are yet to pay workers’ salaries, will pay the dues in phases. The government has already announced a loan programme to deal with the salary payment. The demands of the workers will be implemented in phases,” he added.

The labour and employment adviser said the recent protests in the pharmaceutical industry and agricultural products industry will be resolved through quick discussions.

Calling on the protesters not to harm the economy, he said, “Many want to damage our industrial garments and other industrial sectors, which we cannot allow.”

He noted that in order to accelerate the economy of the country, the production of industrial factories must be increased.

“The working environment of industrial factories should be improved through the improvement of industrial factory owner-labour relations. We have to remember that if the factory is damaged, the workers of the concerned company will be the most affected. Factories cannot be damaged in the name of movement.

“The current interim government is a student-labour government. The government is aware of the overall issue of workers’ distress. Appropriate steps will be taken for workers welfare as soon as possible,” said the adviser.

Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan; Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Adviser Nahid Islam; and Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter were also present at the views exchange meeting presided over by Asif.
