Case filed against former railway minister Mujibul Haque, MP Bahar, and 433 others over attack on protesters
A case has been filed against former railway minister Mujibul Haque Mujib, his wife Hanufa Akter, former MP of Cumilla sadar constituency AKM Bahauddin Bahar, his daughter and former mayor Tahsina Bahar Suchana, and 130 others, along with 300 unidentified individuals.
The case was filed in connection with the attacks and shootings during the protests in the Alekharchar and Cantonment areas of Cumilla.
Kazi Md Sohel from the Alekharchar area in Cumilla, filed the case at the Cumilla Kotwali Model police station last night (5 September). The information was confirmed by Shiben Biswas, inspector (investigation) of Cumilla Kotwali Model police station.
Among the other accused are business leader Atik Ullah Khokon, former chairman of Burichang upazila Sajjad Hossain Swapan, former chairman of Brahmanpara upazila Mehrab Hossain Opi, former vice-chairman of Sadar upazila Ahmed Niaz Pavel, city councilors, union chairmen, and leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliate organisations.
According to the complaint, more than 300 accused, armed with firearms, explosives, and sharp weapons, attacked the plaintiff and other protesters under the direction of the first and second accused and led by the third accused.
The attackers reportedly hurled cocktails and fired bullets like rain. The assailants chased the protesters all the way to the Cantonment area. Accused number 33 and 34 allegedly opened fire on innocent students with their licensed pistols and shotguns.
The plaintiff was shot in the head and collapsed on the road, after which accused number 12 reportedly struck him multiple times on the chest and head.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the process continues.
