A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight has turned back to UAE’s Dubai after a crack was detected in the cockpit windshield, officials said.
The incident occurred yesterday night (7 September) on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft when it departed Dubai for Dhaka at 12pm local time.
“The pilot noticed the crack in the cockpit window while the aircraft was over Omani airspace and immediately decided to return to Dubai,” Bosra Islam, general manager (Public Relations) of the airlines, told The Business Standard.
“The passengers are currently in Dubai. A rescue flight has been dispatched to Dubai to bring them back to Dhaka,” he added.
According to Biman sources, the rescue flight departed from Dhaka for Dubai at 12:50pm today. The flight is expected to reach Dubai at 5pm local time. It will depart Dubai with the stranded passengers at 10:50pm Bangladesh time.
Earlier, on 20 January, a pilot of a Biman flight, bound for Saudi Arabia’s Dammam, noticed a crack in the cockpit windshield and decided to return to Dhaka via Delhi. The flight, carrying 297 passengers, safely returned to Bangladesh.
