After Rishad, Bijoy secures a team in the T10 League
Following his impressive bowling in the last T20 World Cup, Rishad Hossain has been receiving offers from various international leagues.
After securing a team in the Big Bash, the Bangladeshi leg-spinner has also been selected for the Zim Afro T10 League.
Now, batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy has also found a team in the same league. Bijoy was picked up by Bulawayo Braves from the players’ draft, becoming the second Bangladeshi cricketer to secure a place in the franchise league.
The tournament will be held for the second time and will take place from 21 September to 29 September. During this time, the Bangladesh team will be touring India, with the first Test starting on 19 September and the second on 27 September. Following that, Bangladesh will play three T20Is against India.
In the first edition of the tournament, Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin Ahmed represented Bangladesh.
They could have been part of this edition as well, but both, along with other players, will be occupied with the Test series and preparing for the T20I series against India.
Rishad, who has yet to make his Test debut, won’t be a part of the team for the longest format on the India tour, allowing him to participate in the Zim Afro T10 League and still be available for the T20I series against India. Similarly, since Bijoy is not part of the national team, he will have the opportunity to play in the league.
Recently, Rishad was also signed by Big Bash team Hobart Hurricanes, becoming the second Bangladeshi, after Shakib Al Hasan, to play in the tournament.
In one aspect, however, Rishad remains the first. He is the first Bangladeshi cricketer to be picked directly from the players’ draft. Even before the Zim Afro T10 League draft, Rishad’s spot was secured as he was signed directly by Harare Volts.
Rishad is in the ‘B’ category of foreign players for the Harare Volts, whose icon player is New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham.
Bijoy, meanwhile, has been drafted into the ‘C’ category of foreign players for Bulawayo Braves, whose icon player is Australian star opener David Warner. The tournament, to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe, will feature six teams this year, an increase from the five teams in the first edition. Last year’s champion was Durban Qalandars.
