A three-year-old child was burnt to death at Savar in Dhaka this morning (14 September) while playing with a gas lighter.

The child has been identified as Mohammad Ullah. During the incident, his 11-year-old brother, Md Sakib, was also injured, said  Md Didar, in charge of Birulia police outpost.

According to locals and police, the two kids were playing with a gas lighter inside their rented house in the Kaliakair Paschim Para area of Savar’s Birulia around 10:30am.

At one point, fire from the gas lighter spread to the clothing stored in the house.

The father of the children was sleeping inside the house at that moment. As fire engulfed the house soon, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the children after bringing the blaze under control.

The younger child died on the spot, while the older child has been sent to the hospital for treatment, according to police and locals.
