Md Mizan, a local gang leader accused of firing on students and the public during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chattogram, has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7).
Mizan, a resident of the Bayezid Bostami area, was apprehended in possession of yaba and weapons on Monday (16 September), RAB-7’s Senior Assistant Director Md Sharif-ul-Alam said today (17 September).
He said the RAB was tipped off about a large stash of yaba being stored in a rented house in the Haripur Brahmanpara area. The elite force later conducted a raid there in early Monday morning, around 4:30 am, and arrested Mizan.
During the operation, 1,200 pieces of yaba and a knife were recovered from bamboo scaffolding above the toilet at Mizan’s residence, said the RAB official.
Mizan is accused of opening fire on a crowd of students during the recent student-mass uprising in Bahaddarhat on 18 July.
A video showing him handling firearms went viral on social media following the incident.
According to RAB 7, Mizan currently faces seven criminal cases, including charges related to drugs, weapons, kidnapping, and robbery.
He has been handed over to the Bayezid Bostami Police Station for further legal action.
