Around one month after the devastating floods that hit the eastern part of the country, Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e-Azam on Tuesday (17 September) informed that damages from the natural disaster topped Tk14,269 crore.
He shared the information with reporters at an event of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The adviser said the flood has affected around 942,811 people while 74 people died and 68 others sustained injuries.
He said materials worth Tk14,269 crore were damaged in the recent floods.
These figures (both damage and casualties) are based on damage assessments from various ministries and may be subject to change, he said.
Farooq mentioned that relief measures have been implemented for the flood-affected districts, including the suspension of loan repayments until October.
In response to a query, he informed that the rehabilitation process for those affected by the floods has already begun.
A central committee has been formed to look after the process and district and upazila committees will also be formed to monitor and execute the necessary initiatives.
