Bangladesh aim for strong start in SAFF U-17 opener against India
Bangladesh are targeting a strong start to the SAFF U-17 Championship as they face India in the tournament opener at the Changlimithang Stadium in Bhutan today.
The match kicks off at 6:00pm Bangladesh time.
In last year’s SAFF U-16 Championship, Bangladesh suffered two defeats to India – once in the group stage and again in the final. This time, captain Nazmul Huda Faisal and his team are determined to turn the tables.
“We will try to give our best against a strong India and minimise mistakes, as the team making fewer errors will win,” Faisal said at the pre-match press conference.
Head coach and technical director AKM Saiful Bari Titu emphasised the importance of delivering a good performance.
“Playing against India brings its own pressure, but we’ve prepared well. The players have worked hard to manage that pressure because our goal is to earn points and demonstrate our quality against India,” Titu said. He also noted that the team may face challenges due to Bhutan’s high altitude.
