Jatrabari police Inspector Mazharul on 5-day remand in Madrasa student killing case

A court here today placed police inspector Mazharul Islam on a five-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Lord Hardinge Fazil Degree Madrasah student Arif in the capital’s Jatrabari area on 19 July.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque passed the order as police produced Mazharul before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

Mazharul was arrested from the Armed Police Special Training Centre in Khagrachari on 17 September.

Mazharul was posted at Jatrabari Police Station during the recent anti-discrimination student movement and was allegedly instrumental in carrying out an indiscriminate shooting of the protesters in Jatrabari Kutubkhali area.

Madrasah student Arif was shot in his eye and succumbed to his injuries on 19 July.

Arif’s father Md Eusuf later filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station.
