Bangladesh face follow-on threat as Bumrah strikes before tea
Bangladesh’s first innings is hanging by a thread, reaching 112 for 8 at tea on the second day, still trailing India by 264 runs in the ongoing Test.
Hasan, who scored 9 runs from 22 balls, edged a delivery to Virat Kohli at second slip. The dismissal mirrored Bumrah’s own dismissal from earlier in the day, where Hasan had taken a similar catch.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains at the crease with 12 runs, as Bangladesh now need another 65 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Earlier in the session, Bangladesh’s woes deepened as captain Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das both fell to Ravindra Jadeja. Liton was the first to depart, trying an ill-advised sweep shot against the turn, skying the ball to long leg where substitute fielder Dhruv Jurel completed the catch. Liton managed 22 from 42 balls before the error ended his promising stand with Shakib.
Shakib, witnessing Liton’s dismissal from the other end, repeated a similar mistake. In Jadeja’s next over, he attempted a risky reverse sweep and was caught by the wicketkeeper after the ball ricocheted off his boot. Shakib’s dismissal for 32 from 64 deliveries left Bangladesh reeling at 94 for 7.
India’s bowlers, led by Bumrah and Jadeja, maintained relentless pressure, leaving Bangladesh with a mountain to climb. At the tea interval, only Miraz and the tail remain, as they try to reduce the deficit and avoid the follow-on.
