An Indian man, Challa Fru Mog, was allegedly abducted for ransom while visiting relatives in Bangladesh, says The Indian Express.
He was rescued by the BGB within a week of being informed by India’s BSF of the situation, and was handed over on Friday (20 Sep) in the presence of immigration and police officials of Bangladesh and India in the South Tripura district
On Thursday, Challu Fur’s wife Swapna had visited the Border Out Post (BOP) in Belonia around 10.30 am and had approached the BSF company commander regarding the alleged abduction of her husband in Bangladesh. The Mogs are residents of Mogpara in Radhanagar under PR Bari police station of South Tripura district.
According to her, Challa Fur had gone to Bangladesh to visit his relatives on a proper passport and visa through the Belonia Land Custom Station on September 13.
However, on his way back, he was allegedly abducted by a group of Bangladeshi miscreants who threatened him and demanded Rs 1 lakh ransom.
The BSF officers on duty arranged a company commander-level flag meeting between BSF’s Belonia BOP on the Indian side and BGB’s Majumdarhat BOP on the Bangladesh side at 11.30 am on Thursday. The meeting was arranged in just an hour after the abducted person’s wife approached the BSF.
During the flag meeting, BGB authorities informed that the abducted Indian citizen was rescued and was safe in custody of Bangladesh Police while one of the kidnappers was arrested. They also said search was going on for others.
In a statement issued by the BSF, the security force said, “Responding with alacrity to the grievance of Swapna Mog, BSF approached BGB at the appropriate level. BSF and BGB acted in tandem displaying synergy which ensured the safe and timely return of Challa Fru Mog.”
