Former khatib Ruhul Amin, his son among 54 sued over clash at Baitul Mukarram

An attempted murder case has been filed against Ruhul Amin, former khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, his son Osama Amin and 52 others over yesterday’s clash at the mosque.
About 500-600 unknown individuals were also accused in the case. A person named Ziaur Rahman filed the case with Paltan Police Station today (21 September).
According to the case documents, Imam Abu Saleh Patwari of the Islamic Foundation was giving a sermon before the Jummah prayer around 12:30pm when Ruhul Amin and other accused allegedly dragged him down from the pulpit and took away the microphone.
“When the worshipers present at the spot requested them to desist from such acts, on the orders of Ruhul Amin, his son Osama Amin and other accused beat them with iron rods, hammers, sticks and bricks. About 50-60 were injured,” reads the case statement.
“The accused have caused a loss of about Tk50 lakh by breaking ACs, fans, doors and windows of the mosque,” it added.
Ruhul Amin had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government. Later, Waliur Rahman was given the responsibility of the new khatib.
Ruhul Amin arrived at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque with his followers yesterday to reinstate himself as khatib and a clash broke out between followers of Waliur Rahman and Ruhul Amin.
