Our movement will continue until voting rights are fully ensured: Tarique

BNP’s movement will continue until voting rights are fully ensured, aiming to establish an accountable government in Bangladesh. BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said today (21 September).

“We have freed the country from dictatorship. We have only achieved a small part of our goal. We must ensure people’s right to vote and establish an accountable government,” he made the remark while addressing a memorial event virtually in Sirajganj.

He emphasised that the BNP’s movement will continue until the people’s voting rights are fully guaranteed.

“This is why we are engaged in so much struggle and sacrifice,” he added.

Tarique also acknowledged that the people of Bangladesh have successfully reclaimed their right to speak freely through significant sacrifices, marking only a partial victory so far.

He further said, “I have tried on numerous occasions to get closer to the rural people of Bangladesh

“To make the country self-reliant, we must work together. Bangladesh is a country of immense potential. There are vast opportunities. We must focus on regional production.”

He continued, “We have presented a 31-point demand to the nation. If we want to advance the country, it is not enough to merely carry out the reforms we have called for. The country needs to become economically self-sufficient.

“Political freedom alone will not bring all the benefits. Only by uniting the nation can we achieve economic freedom.”

BNP Standing Committee members Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also spoke at the event.
