Lightning strikes kill 4 in Sylhet

Four people were killed by lightning strikes in Jaintapur and Kanaighat upazilas of Sylhet today (21 September)

In Jaintapur, two victims were identified as Nahid Ahmed, 17, son of Nurul Haque from Nayagram Agfaud village and Abdul Mannan Moni, 45, son of Kala Mia from Babarband village.

Abdul Mannan was working in the field when he was struck by lightning and died on the spot around 12:30pm. Nahid was standing near his house when lightning hit him, leading to his immediate death, Jaintapur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Umme Salik Rumya told The Business Standard

Meanwhile, in Kanaighat, the other two deceased were identified as Kala Mia, 30, and Nur Uddin, 60

Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Hossain Sardar said, “We have received news of two deaths in the upazila due to lightning.”
