Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of the Nagorik Oikya, has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital after falling seriously ill late last night.
His physician, Dr Shoaeb Muhammad, confirmed the news, saying, “He has suffered a heart attack and is currently under intensive observation in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). He is not out of danger until at least 72 hours have passed.”
A media release, signed by Nagorik Oikya organizational secretary Sabik Anwar, said that Manna was abducted by law enforcers in plainclothes in 2015 and was later shown as arrested.
He spent two years in prison due to false charges. During his imprisonment, he suffered a heart attack, which led to hospitalization, where multiple blockages in his heart were diagnosed.
At that time, the government did not allow him proper medical treatment and sent him back to prison instead of providing care.
Even after his release, his passport was withheld, preventing him from seeking advanced medical treatment abroad.
The party has called upon people to pray for his early recovery.
