2 fishermen’s bodies recovered from Meghna River in Monpura

The bodies of two fishermen were recovered from the Meghna River in Monpura, an island upazila of Bhola.

The first body was found near the Master Haat area of Uttar Sakuchia union at around 8am today (22 September). The second body was recovered from the river near the Kawar Tek area of Monpura Union at around 12pm.

Md Zahirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Monpura Police Station, confirmed that the families have identified the bodies. Since there were no objections, the bodies were handed over to the respective families.

Two cases of unnatural deaths have been filed with the Monpura Police Station regarding the incident.

The deceased were identified as Md Belal Hossain, 25, son of Abul Malek from Dewanpur village in Tajumuddin Upazila and Alauddin, 30, son of Abu Taher from Sonar Char village in Hajir Hat union, Monpura Upazila.

According to local sources, residents spotted the bodies floating in the river and informed the police. Upon receiving the information, Monpura police retrieved the bodies and brought them to the police station. Later, the families of the deceased identified and claimed the bodies.

The families of the victims said that the fishermen had gone missing on Friday (20 September), after their fishing trawler capsized during a sudden storm.
