Protesters have blocked the Gulshan-2 intersection in the capital today (23 September), creating severe traffic gridlock in adjacent areas.
Tareq Mahmud, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Traffic Division, said a group of students blocked the road and staged a demonstration in front of the BSB Global Network office, a foreign study counselling agency, in the Gulshan-2 area.
As a result, traffic movement was halted on the Kakali to Badda Notunbazar road via Gulshan-2 and the United Hospital to Gulshan-1 road via Gulshan-2.
Protesters have claimed that they paid a huge amount of money – over Tk17 lakh per person in some cases – to the agency, which promised to send students abroad for studies.
The agency, however, did not do so. At the same time, it also allegedly did not return the money and provided no receipt.
Tareq stated that efforts are underway to disperse the protesters and restore normal traffic flow.
