Ex-MP George sent to jail in murder case after remand
Selim Altaf George, former lawmaker from Kushtia-4 constituency, has been sent to jail after ending his police remand in a murder case in the city’s Mohammadpur Police Station during the student-led mass uprising.
Earlier on 17 September, George was arrested by police from the city’s Lalmatia area for his alleged involvement in the killing of auto-rickshaw
driver Md Rony in Nurjahan Road area under Mohammadpur here during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 19 July last.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Arfatul Rakib passed the order today as the Investigation Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mohammadpur Police Station Altaf Hossain produced George before the court after ending his police remand in the case.
Lawyer of the accused also prayed for his bail but the court ordered to send him to jail rejecting the bail plea.
Md Rony suffered bullet injuries in front of a primary school on Nurjahan Road at about 1pm on the day. He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Later, Rony’s mother filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station in this connection.
