Pro-AL UP chairman critically injured in attack over ‘long-standing dispute’

A Union Parishad (UP) chairman in Kushtia was brutally attacked and left critically injured allegedly by his rival group over previous dispute this (25 September) morning.
The incident occurred in the Sheikhpara Bihariya village of Khoksa upazila.
Injured Mujibur Rahman is the chairman of Janipur Union and the general secretary of union Awami League.
His brother, Shahidul Rahman, claimed that the attack was made by Mujibur’s rival Shamim over a long-standing dispute.
According to Shahidul, Shamim’s men intercepted Mujibur on his way to his farm and attacked him with sharp weapons. The attackers inflicted severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body, causing extensive bleeding.
The chairman was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Kushtia General Hospital for advanced treatment. His condition is stated to be critical, with a broken arm and leg.
Shamim could not be reached for a comment over the incident.
Annur Zayed, officer-in-charge of Khoksha Police Station, said the police will investigate the incident and take appropriate action if a complaint is filed.
