Alleged Titas Gas officials vandalise Petrobangla headquarters in protest against MD appointment

A group alleged to be Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited officials and employees staged a protest and vandalised the Petrobangla’s headquarters in Karwan Bazar.

The protest was reportedly against the appointment of a new managing director at Titas Gas.

The incident occurred today (10 September) around 11am when protesters broke the glass panels at the ground-floor reception of the petro centre.

After about 45 minutes, they returned to the Titas Gas office, sources confirmed.

The protest followed the Ministry’s decision on 9 September to terminate the contractual appointment of Titas Gas’s former managing director Engineer Harunur Rashid Mollah.

In his place, Shahnewaz Parvez, managing director of the Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), was assigned as the acting managing director of Titas.

Parvez is widely known for his integrity and competence.

According to sources from Titas, several senior officials incited the protest, leading the team to petro centre for the alleged vandalism.

Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarkar told the media, “The Titas employees are demanding that one of their own should be appointed as the managing director. However, no one from Titas ranks in the top 50-60 senior officials at Petrobangla, and many are under investigation for corruption. This move seems like an attempt to protect corrupt practices.

“We have informed the police and army. Strict actions will be taken against anyone who violates discipline,” he added.
